More Technically
Craniosacral Therapy is a gentle, light-touch method of evaluating and enhancing the craniosacral system, the environment in which the brain and spinal cord function. An imbalance or dysfunction in the craniosacral system can cause sensory, motor or neurological disabilities and central nervous system disorders. These problems may include chronic pain, eye difficulties, scoliosis, headaches, neck and back pain, TMJ, chronic fatigue, motor-coordination impairments and learning disabilities, as well as other physical and psychological problems. The therapy has been successfully used to treat these problems since the 1980's.

And From the Upledger Institute: http://www.upledger.com/
"Using a touch generally no heavier than the weight of a nickel, skilled practitioners can monitor the rhythm of the system at key points throughout the body to pinpoint the source of obstruction or stress. Once the source has been determined, they can work to eliminate the barrier and help bring the body to optimum performance levels. As the body begins to function at its designed capacity, the results can be:

The contraindications for CranioSacral Therapy (CST) are any physiological condition in which slight changes in intracranial pressure could negatively affect the patient, such as: acute intracranial hemorrage, intracranial aneurysm, recent skull fracture and herniation of the medulla oblongata.

In cases of recent brain hemorrhage or stroke: treatment should be delayed until your physician says there is no more bleeding and gives the go-ahead.

Recent spinal tap or puncture in the Craniosacral system - treatment should be delayed until after the patient's physician says there is no more leaking of spinal fluid and gives the go-ahead.
